Das BBLd folgt seit 2018 mehreren ISO-Normen. BBLD IDs nutzen RFC 3986 2.3 "Unreserved Characters" und wo vorhanden ISNI, ISBN. Zeitangaben werden gemäß ISO 8601 umgestellt, Geschlechtsangaben nach ISO/IEC 5218 kodiert. Die Transliteration aus dem Kyrillischem erfolgt zur Erleichterung der internationalen Zusammenarbeit nach ISO 9.
